Contractual Bargaining Agreements have been ratified at Borden Dairy, Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated, Miller Transporters and Republic Services so far in 2017.
BORDEN DAIRY: Borden members overwhelmingly ratified their new CBA on Saturday, 7/29/2017. The contract is for 3 years expiring on 7/31/2020. Improvements include an 8 hour daily guarantee for a 5 day workweek, a 10 hour daily gurantee for a 4 day workweek, overtime for all hours worked on holidays, double time pay for work on the 7th workday in a workweek, increases to the hourly wage each year of the contract, an additional point added to the total required for termination under the Company's attendance plan and no increase to the healthcare premium during the first year. A special thanks for the hard work of the members/Stewards on the negotiating committee: Chris Moore, Michael Smith, Tim Carter and Eric Weaver.
MILLER TRANSPORTERS: Teamsters Local 991 held a proposal meeting on 12/03/2016 to discuss the issues our members face at Miller Transporters. The members provided good information that translated into a number of proposals presented for bargaining at negotiations meetings on 01/9-11/2017, resulting in a fair contract that carried with it a unanimous committee recommendation. The members made it clear they did not want to assume the cost of Health, Welfare, and Pension; their voice was heard and the Company will maintain 100% of that cost, as well as the cost of Passport Cards and TWIC Cards when proof of purchase/renewal is provided. The contract provides for an average wage increase of 1.75% the first 3 years of the agreement with a reopener in the last 2 years. Ballots were mailed to the members 2/2/2017 and counted on 2/22/2017. The contract was ratified by the membership.
REPUBLIC SERVICES: Teamsters Local 991 held a proposal meeting on 12/16/2016 to discuss the issues our members are faced with at Republic Services of Mobile and Mobile Transfer Station. The members turned out for this meeting and were very instrumental in providing the Local with the necessary information needed to negotiate a fair agreement for our members. The parties started negotiations on 01/13/2017 and after about 7 more meetings the parties had reached a tentative agreement that carried a unanimous committee endorsement on 3/16/2017. There was some clean-up to the language and an additional Article was added, "Equal Employment and Inclusion". This language is to prevent and maintain a workplace that is free from unlawful discrimination. The contract provides for a $400 ratification bonus in year 1 and year 3, a wage increase of 6.5% over the 3 year agreement, the Company will maintain 75% of the healthcare cost, vacation enhancements were made to include a third week of vacation during the 6th through 14th year, and 40 hours pay at the 13 week average hourly rate plus 7 1/2 hours at the overtime rate at the 13 week average hourly rate. The Union Committee (Zack Smith, Eugene Rider and Carlos Brown) engaged their co-workers on March 17th and explained the tentative agreement. The very next day, 3/18/2017, a contract ratification meeting was held and the contract was ratified by a unanimous "Yes" vote.
